Pull-along Wooden Duck
Lego AS. Denmark, ca.1955.
The wooden duck is typical of the wood designs of the the 1930’s and 1940’s. It was manufactured from 1935–1957 making it one of the most popular and longest-running of the wood toys. The duck consisted of a rectanglar base, 4 wheels and a body cut from a pattern on a jig. The base included a mechanism that would make a “quacking” noise when pulled. In the 1930’s the finished wood ducks were handpainted by locals as contracted piece-work. Later versions were stencil painted at the Lego factory. The result is literally 100’s of variations in the 12 years of production.
